Designer Module

Three report types beyond the standard modules — linked reports, embedded Crystal Reports, and free-form SQL — placeable on any tab anywhere.

What it does

The Designer module extends reporting beyond the built-in screens with three additional report types that can be added to any tab in any module, reporting on the Macola® database and any other SQL database.

The three report types

Advanced Report Designer

Ties two existing reports with related but different information into one: for example, A/R aging for a customer alongside that customer's sales-order detail. The two reports are associated automatically on a common field (such as customer number) — scroll to a different customer in one report and the companion report follows, the way drill-down screens behave in standard Pulse Dashboard.

Crystal Report box

Runs an existing Crystal Report from inside Pulse Dashboard — one reliable location instead of a desktop full of icons, using Pulse Dashboard's own connection information. Moving a Crystal report no longer disconnects it from the database.

Query Analyzer Report

A truly custom report from any information in the Macola® database — or any SQL database — using SQL scripting, a stored procedure or a SQL view. The result looks and behaves like any standard Pulse report: sortable, filterable, printable and exportable to Excel. The Column Chooser icon isn't available here, but a similar column list can be offered by including the additional columns in the script.

Also in the Designer toolbox

  • Report Scheduler — creates and emails reports on a schedule; setting it up takes a dedicated user and your SMTP details

Advanced techniques covers the Advanced Report Designer setup. For the Query Analyzer, writing your own SQL reports goes through dates, filters, formatting, stored procedures and passing the tab's Pulse filters into a query.
